Scissor shapes

Choosing the right hairdressing scissors is not easy. How will it feel and which scissors to choose to suit my hand? Here's a guide to the different types of scissors.

Offset - The offset thumb provides a relaxed working position and helps the elbow to naturally draw in towards the body. For most people, it feels more natural to use scissors that are offset/ergonomic.

Classic- The finger rings are parallel to each other and were the most common scissors to use.

Gives a more free feeling in the hand to use but has the disadvantage that it is not ergonomic.

Crane - More angled and protruding than offset, makes for relaxed work and helps the elbow to be naturally drawn in towards the body.

Ergo - With curved/angled thumb ring to minimize pressure damage. Is normally only on scissors that are offset (see above) in the Silver Line / Gold Line / Black Line series.

Rotation - The inner ring spins and thus follows the movement of the hand. It is not possible to remove the inner ring.

Flex - With a flex scissors, the thumb ring is articulated and moves according to how the thumb is angled.

The most ergonomic but can feel very unfamiliar to use the first time. Normally takes a week of work to get used to.

Most models allow you to lock the thumb ring in the desired position.
